AUSTRIA - RAURIS
The mountain town of Rauris is located in the Alpine valley of Raurisertal, adjacent to the ski resort of the same name. This is another place that I would like to recommend to you as a tip for a pleasant vacation combined with mountain activities and relaxation. The stunning scenery of the surrounding Alpine nature, along with the tastefully and perfectly equipped apartment hotel Carpe Solem where we stayed, created a perfect atmosphere that I highly recommend.
We came here to experience the winter season and enjoy the last skiing before the upcoming spring.
Raurisertal Ski Area
The starting station for the cable car is right by the mentioned hotel, so if you like to hit the slopes among the first, there's no need to rush in the morning. The resort isn't among the largest, but the quality and length of the ski runs, especially the one from the top of Schwarzwand, is so good that we didn't feel the need to visit other nearby ski areas. For example, the Kaprun or Zell am See are less than half an hour away by car, and they can certainly be considered for a longer stay. For us, Raurisertal was enough for 3 days of skiing.
Skiers and snowboarders of all levels will enjoy it here, and a "family track" was prepared for children. There were also gentle slopes for complete beginners in the lower part right by the hotel. We were also lucky to have fresh snow, so we could enjoy some freeride sections.
There are restaurants and outdoor terraces at the top and middle station of the lower cable car. At the middle station, there's also a small wooden playground for children. The equipment rental is next to the hotel.
If you decide to come here at the end of the season and are welcomed by the green landscape, there's no need to panic. There was enough snow up from the middle station of the first cable car.
The prices of the ski passes and a map of the ski area are available on its website here.
Accommodation at Carpe Solem
Although I perceive the price per night as high according to my internal standard, from my point of view, it is still very good in relation to the hotel's perfect facilities and services. The hotel offers unlimited access to the SPA, which includes several saunas and beautiful relaxation rooms with views of the surrounding countryside, all included in the price of the accommodation. There is also unlimited access to the pool, children's corner, and gym.
The restaurant is located on the first floor and the hotel's spacious ski room with plenty of boot dryers for each guest is located on the ground floor.
The hotel offers variously sized, spacious, and well-equipped apartments with a capacity of 2 to 10 people. Accommodation can be booked directly through the Alps Resorts group website, under which the hotel operates (here), or on Booking.com, where my reservation was even slightly cheaper (here).
Montain town Rauris
The location of the hotel is also perfect due to its walking distance to the mountain town of Rauris, which is definitely worth a stroll. You can reach its center on foot in about 15 minutes. On the left side of the main road towards the center, there is also a children's playground. In the center of the town, you will find traditional mountain architecture with typical wooden houses and a description of the history associated with them. There are also grocery stores (Spar and Billa) and smaller clothing stores available.
